City of Truckee wins Beacon Award for Climate Ready Truckee – YubaNet
The Institute for Local Government (ILG) announced the winners of their Beacon Awards for their achievements in tackling climate change and the city of Truckee won the category Equity and Commitment in Sustainability and Climate.
The Town of Truckee receives the Equity and Commitment Award for its climate change adaptation plan, Climate Ready Truckee, which prioritizes low-income, homeless and non-English speaking communities as part of the climate solutions of Truckee.
Mayor Anna Klovstad is delighted with this award: “We are also working with supervisors Bullock and Hall on the Justice and Equity program. I am so proud of the Nevada County community, it proves that we are better at working together. “
The Innovation and Leadership Awards aim to celebrate the efforts of local governments to implement collaborative, inclusive and equitable climate change resilience and adaptation programs. In addition to the Beacon Vanguard Awards, ILG recognizes the cities of Fremont, Irvine, Truckee, Davis and Manhattan Beach with the Beacon Leadership and Innovation Awards.
“Cities statewide are facing increased climate impacts and threats such as forest fires, drought, sea level rise and extreme heat,” said Erica L. Manuel, CEO and Executive Director of the Institute for Local Government in a press release. “We are thrilled to honor the leadership and innovation of our partner cities to proactively manage and address these growing threats to make all communities in California more sustainable and resilient. ”
