Miami Dade College Welcomes Second Class of Up-and-coming Black Scholars

Miami, July 5, 2022 – Miami Dade College (MDC) will welcome its second class of Rising Black Scholars in an induction ceremony at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 7 on the College’s North Campus. MDC’s groundbreaking Rising Black Scholars Program provides financial aid, support services and resources to Black students to ensure their academic success, while demonstrating a sense of belonging and readiness for further education or entry to the work market.

The structured experiences of the Rising Black Scholars program inside and outside the classroom equip students with the skills, resources, and support services needed to achieve their academic and career goals. Speakers receive free tuition up to 30 credits plus fees per year, book allowance, laptop, and scholarship opportunities. They will also have access to short-term, career-focused degrees that increase earning potential, degree options, internship opportunities, academic advising, and re-entry assistance.

A $1 million gift from the MDC Foundation and the Mitchell Wolfson Sr. Foundation funds the Rising Black Scholars program.
